 Upgrading SAP Crystal Reports components

3.2 Upgrading SAP Crystal Reports components

  • Crystal Reports side-by-side installation is supported when upgrading from Crystal Reports XI R2, Crystal Reports XI, Crystal Reports 10, or Crystal Reports 9.

  • If you have purchased an upgrade product activation keycode, you will find that the installation program does not remove your previous version of Crystal Reports. In general, upgrading Crystal Reports components provides you with a side-by-side installation (that is, an installation in which you can run either your old or new version of Crystal Reports)

  • This side-by-side behavior applies to Crystal Reports and the various Software Development Kits (SDKs). However, Visual Studio integration is not side by side; only one version of Crystal Reports can be integrated into the Visual Studio .NET IDE at any given time.

  • For further information that may pertain to your reporting environment, consult the Release Notes included with your product distribution.

To Manually uninstall Crystal Reports :

Crystal Reports is installed on your computer. You need to manually uninstall Crystal Reports for one of the following reasons:

  • To verify that all Crystal Reports components have been completely removed prior to installing a later version of Crystal Reports.

  • To remove the remaining Crystal Reports components that have not been removed using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command (Start > Settings > Control Panel).

  • To remove the remaining Crystal Reports components that have not been removed using the Setup.exe file.

Before getting started, uninstall Crystal Reports by launching the Setup.exe file from the installation or by using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command. If either of these methods fails to remove all Crystal Reports directories, files and registry keys, then continue with the resolution of this article.

This resolution can be applied if Crystal Reports is the only software installed on the computer that uses the Business Objects directories, files and registry keys.

For example, Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise and BusinessObjects Enterprise are applications that may share the same directories, files and registry keys. Removing these directories, files and registry keys may cause other software to function incorrectly.

  1. To manually uninstall Crystal Reports, delete the following directories:

  • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\(Version)

  • C:\Program Files\Business Objects

Do not remove the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\… if you have BusinessObjects Enterprise or Crystal Reports Server installed.
These files are shared by both applications and removal of these files will cause Business ObjectsEnterprise and Crystal Reports Server to function incorrectly.

The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

2. Delete the following registry keys:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite (Version)\Crystal Reports

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite (Version)\Crystal Reports

  • HKEY_USERS\S-#-#-##-...-####\Software\Business Objects\Suite (Version)\Crystal Reports

The number signs (#) represent a series of numbers that are different on each computer.

3. After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.
