1. System Requirements

  • Config Browser
    - Mozilla Firefox : Newer versions of Firefox enable JavaScript and load images automatically by
    default. If you have older versions of Mozilla Firefox and have disabled these options, enable them
    before running the installation program:
    1. In the Options, menu select Options. The Options window displays.
    2. Select Content.
    3. Enable Load images automatically.
    4. Enable Enable JavaScript.
    5. Click OK.
    - Microsoft Internet Explorer :
    Restriction Graphics in the installation wizard might not display correctly in Microsoft Internet
    Explorer. Make sure that the security zone for the computer allows the installation program to run:
    1. From Microsoft Internet Explorer, in the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
    2. Click the Security tab.
    3. Click the Trusted Sites icon.
    4. Click Sites.
    5. In the Add this Website to the zone field, type https://hostname where hostname is the host
    name of the computer on which the installation program will run.
    6. Click Add.>Click OK.>Click OK.

  • Default directory path: C:\IBM\InformationServer

  • Remove any paths to Java™ executables from the system PATH.
    SystemRoot%\, %SystemRoot%\system32, %SystemRoot%\system32\wbem

  • Temporary files : Windows : %TEMP%
    If you want to redirect 1.5 GB of temporary files to a different temporary directory, create a new file called .jvm_args in the root installation directory and add the following line with the new temporary directory:

    -Djava.io.tmpdir=installation_program_tempdir

    After the installation completes, do not delete the installation log files that are in the temporary directory. Preserve these files for troubleshooting and verification purposes.

  • Length of your system PATH environment variable will not exceed 2047 characters after installation.

  • If you are installing an instance of InfoSphere Information Server on a computer with an existing instance, disable all scheduled jobs, scheduled tasks, scheduled reports, and enabled IBM InfoSphere Information Services Director applications.

  • Disable firewall software and antivirus software before starting the installation

2. Installation

 Running ISA Lite to check prerequisites

2.1 Running ISA Lite to check prerequisites

  1. Download and install the ISA Lite tool from the support site (www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24022700).

  2. Run the tool in console mode to create a response file. Use this response file to run the same script in the future without reentering all of your information.

  3. View the generated reports to see the prerequisites that passed and failed. Correct any failed prerequisites and then run the tool again.

2.2 Installing IBM InfoSphere Information Server

To Installing IBM InfoSphere Information Server

  1. Download the installation image files from Passport Advantage. 
    1.1 Create a new folder on your C drive in which you will move over the Information Server client
    exe.  and copy all the IBM’s Infosphere Suite files paste to folder.
    1.2 Next unzip InfoSvr_Client_v8.5_Win.zip, InfoSvr_v8.5_FP1_WinSvr_32_64.zip, is-suite-8.5.0.284.zip
    within. Make sure you keep the same folder names of the sub folders.

  2. Click Windows Start then search for “CMD”
    Once CMD opens type the following cd C:\Foldername\InfoSvr_Client_v8.5_Win\is-client 

  3. Once you have changed your directory within the command prompt window, you then need to execute the setup.exe file.  To do this type setup.exe within the CMD window.

  4. This will Click off the installation

  5. You may get a Windows Block popup.  Make sure you allow access to the Java Launcher.
    Once the installation Clicks off the following dialog will box will appear. 
    Please select the language then Click the “Login” button

  6. Once you Click the “Login” button the following window below will appear, please Click Next.

  7. Next the Software License Agreement will appear, please read and check the
    “I accept the terms in the license agreement” then Click the “Next” button.
    Then see a Firewall Requirement screen pop up, Click the “Next” button.

  8. Next the install will validate that you PC meets all requirements for the install. 
    If you “PASSED” all checks and everything is green then you can Click the NEXT button.

  9. Once the check up is complete, a prompt will appear in regards to the install.

  10. Make sure the installation directory is “C:\IBM\InformationServer”  This should be the default. 
    Click NEXT
    Select “New Installation” then Click NEXT

  11. Select a default Language and select all the IBM Infosphere Suite products, then Click NEXT.

An option will appear to install shortcuts on your desktop. 
Keep checked if you want the shortcuts on your desktop. Click NEXT

12. InfoSphere will validation your PC meets all system requirements.

If everything is set to “PASSED” click “NEXT.”  For any checks that have “FAILED” you will have to fix
the issues before moving forward.

13. InfoSphere will ask if you want to install, press the NEXT button.  Make sure the Install IBM
InfoSphere check box is selected.  In addition, your response file location should have defaulted to
C:\IBM\InformationServer\response.txt.  You can change this if you like.

14. Infosphere will list out all the products it will be installing. 
Click INSTALL if you are ok with all the Infosphere applications in which will be installed.

15. Please note this install will take a while.
Install should complete and a summary of everything installed will appear. Click FINISH.

16. The following help screen will appear, go back to the CMD window to close out and complete the install session for Infosphere.  Press CTRL+C to close the command window, and close the help doc.

17. Installation is complete.  Verify the install.
Go to the following folder/file C:\IBM\InformationServer\Version.xml
If the following XML opens and you see “Success” within the status, your installed as installed
correctly.

Close the following XML
This will complete the install of the Infosphere package suite applications.

2.3 Testing the installation of IBM InfoSphere DataStage and IBM InfoSphere
QualityStage

  1. Start the IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Administrator client:
    - On the computer where you installed the Administrator client,
    click Start > All Programs > IBM InfoSphere Information Server > IBM InfoSphere
    DataStage and QualityStage Administrator.
    - When you are prompted for the server where the services tier is installed, select a URL in the 
    Host name of the services tier list. If the URL is not in the list, type the URL into the field.
    The URL is in the form server_name:port_number.The server name and port values depend on
    whether IBM WebSphere® Application Server clustering is set up within your services tier
    configuration.

The host name or IP address of the front-end dispatcher (either the Web server or the load balancer). Do not use the host name of a particular cluster member.

The host name or IP address of the computer where WebSphere Application Server is installed.

HTTPS transport secure port (configured as WC_defaulthost_secure in WebSphere Application Server).

- Select the engine server name in the Host name of the Information Server engine list, or type it
into the field if it is not in the list.
- Use your suite credentials to log in to the Administrator client.
- If you get a message that a security certificate from the server is not trusted, accept the certificate and
store it in your list of trusted certificates:
1. To view the security certificate, click View Certificate.
2. Click the Certification Path tab, and then select the root certificate.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Click Install Certificate, and then click Next.
5. Select Place all certificates in the following store.
6. Click Browse, and then select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
7. Click Next, and then click Finish to import the certificate.

2. Start the IBM InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Designer client:
- On the computer where you installed the Designer client,
Click Start > All Programs > IBM InfoSphere Information Server > IBM InfoSphere DataStage
and QualityStage Designer.
- Use your suite credentials to log in to the Designer client. If you completed step 1 and installed the
certificate in the trusted store on this same computer, the Designer client will reuse that certificate
when authenticating.
- When you are prompted for the server where the services tier is installed, select a URL in
the Hostname of the services tier list. If the URL is not in the list, type the URL into the field.
The URL is in the form server_name:port_number.Use the same server name and port number that
you used in the previous step.
- When you are prompted for the server and project, select the server and project in the Project list.
If the values are not in the list, type them into the field. Specify the server and project as follows: 
server_name/project_name.
For example, if the engine is installed on the xyz server (in a non-clustered application server
configuration) and the project is named my-project, type xyz/my-project

3. Licensing

 Activating and deactivating IBM InfoSphere DataStage editions and feature packs

Activating and deactivating IBM InfoSphere DataStage editions and feature packs

Run the iisAdmin command to change the InfoSphere® DataStage® features that were activated when the services tier was installed. The iisAdmin command can activate or deactivate InfoSphere DataStage editions and feature packs within your suite if InfoSphere DataStage is installed.

Must have suite administrator authority.

InfoSphere DataStage
To activate or deactivate an InfoSphere DataStage edition or feature pack (for example, if you are no longer entitled to an item), you do not use the IBM® InfoSphere Information Server software removal program. Instead, deactivate them by using the iisAdmin command.
Windows: <IS_install_path>\ASBServer\iisAdmin.bat -set -key <license_key> -value [0,1]

To deactivate an edition or feature pack, set the value of the -value option to 0.
To activate an edition or feature pack, set the value of the -value option to 1

For example: to deactivate InfoSphere DataStage (parallel and server engine), use the following command:

4. Managing Licenses

Manually removing InfoSphere Information Server from the client tier (Windows)

If you cannot remove suite software by using the software removal program, then you must manually remove files and directories from the client tier computer to ensure that the product is completely removed. Completely removing these files and directories is important if you plan to reinstall the suite.

  1. Back up the computer.

  2. Open an elevated command window:
    - Click Start > Search.
    - In the Search Results box, enter cmd and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
    - Click Continue to accept the prompt asking for your permission to continue.

  3. If you previously installed older versions of IBM® InfoSphere® DataStage® or InfoSphere Information Server clients, Windows registry keys might remain on the system after you uninstall the clients.
    If you have uninstalled all InfoSphere DataStage or InfoSphere Information Server software, delete the following registry keys:Depending on the version of software you have installed, only some of the following keys might exist.

  4. The installation program uses a particular version of the MKS Toolkit on the client and engine tiers. If you did not first install your own supported version of MKS Toolkit, use Add or Remove Programs to remove the MKS Toolkit that was installed by the InfoSphere Information Server installation program.

  5. Remove the following desktop shortcuts:

    • Administrator Client.lnk

    • Designer Client.lnk

    • Console for IBM Information Server.lnk

    • Web Console for IBM Information Server.lnk

  6. Run the following command to remove the indicated InfoSphere Information Server service:

    sc delete ASCLCSSrv 
  7. If the Multi-Client Manager was installed, run the following command to remove the Multi-Client Manager service entry:

    "C:\IBM\InformationServer\MCM\ClientSwitcherService.exe" /uninstall

    If multiple client versions are installed on the computer, all clients are removed.
    To use a previous client version, you must reinstall the client.

  8. Delete the InfoSphere Information Server installation directory.The default directory is C:\IBM\InformationServer\.

  9. If only the most recent version of the clients are installed on this computer, back up your registry and then delete the \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ascential Software and \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\InformationServer registry keys.

  10. Delete the following temporary directories that contain log files for the installation program.

    %TEMP%\ibm_is_logs
    %TEMP%\ISInstall*

    If you chose a different directory for the temporary files, delete that directory instead of the default directories.

  11. Delete the Windows Start menu shortcuts from the following directories:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\
      IBM InfoSphere Information Server\
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
    %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\IBM InfoSphere Information Server\
  12. Remove any remaining InfoSphere Information Server users and groups if you are not using them for other purposes.

  13. Restart each computer after you remove the suite.Microsoft Windows might not be able to remove some files and services until the computer is restarted.
